Events General Information

OGS Events Are Now A Mixture of In-Person and/or Virtual Meetings

OGS hosts several different types of events for members and non-members:

  • Monthly General Membership Meetings -- OGS members normally meet the 2nd Thursday of the month, September through June, at 7:00 pm (social time begins at 6:30 pm). In-person meetings are held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Rd SE, Olympia, WA, unless noted otherwise. Non-member guests are welcome. All General Membership Meetings will be available on the Zoom platform.  A link to the meeting will be provided on the website on the day of the meeting.
    • Monthly General Meetings will be hybrid (Zoom and in-person) in non-winter months and virtual (Zoom) in winter months (Nov, Jan, Feb).
    • A holiday party is held on a Saturday in December instead of the regular monthly meeting.
  • Special Interest Groups (SIGs) -- These groups meet monthly and are only available to OGS members. See the SIGs page.
    • SIG meeting types are determined by the individual SIG leaders.
  • Annual Seminar - This is OGS's premier event featuring one or more distinguished speakers for a full-day paid seminar. Advance registration is required.
    • The Annual Seminar will be virtual (Zoom).
  • Beginners Workshop - This is a free beginning genealogy research class typically offered once a year. The class includes steps for research, places to gather information, and ways to document your family history.  Look for it on our Community Events calendar.
    • Beginners Workshops are held in-person.
  • Monthly Board Meetings -- Normally held the 3rd Tuesday of the month, August through June, at 6:30 pm. Members are welcome to join our leadership group for these meetings.
    • Board meetings are virtual (Google Meet).

Participants who have not used Zoom are encouraged to view the video "Joining a Zoom Call for the First Time" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9isp3qPeQ0E.

We look forward to seeing you at our events. If you need a ride to any of these events, please reach out to another member.
