OGS Code of Conduct

The Olympia Genealogical Society (OGS) welcomes all who share our interest in genealogy and family history. OGS is committed to promoting diversity in our membership and to providing an environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity.

OGS does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or bullying against any person for any reason due to age, ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual or affectional orientation, gender identity, genetic information, appearance, political affiliation, marital status, veteran status, citizenship status or any other characteristic identified by federal, state or local law.

If there is a need for accommodation for disability at an OGS event, please contact OGS in advance of the event in order that efforts can be made to provide reasonable accommodation. As a volunteer organization with limited resources, it is recognized that it may not be feasible for OGS to meet some needs, but efforts will be made both to avoid problematic situations (e.g. use of facilities with inadequate access) and to provide reasonable accommodation for identified needs. Any exceptions (e.g. an event at an historic building with no or limited wheelchair access) must be approved in advance by the OGS Board.

OGS will not knowingly participate in other organizations’ events as a co-sponsor, speaker or other role in which individuals are barred from access to services due to discrimination.

OGS encourages any participant (in-person or virtual) in an OGS event/activity to report any infraction of this Code to an officer of the Society.

Approved by the OGS Board – 16 Oct 2018
