About Us

The Olympia Genealogical Society (OGS) was founded in 1974 to promote the study, interest and research of family and local histories, and to encourage assistance, cooperation and guidance in those efforts to members, friends, and the community. See OGS History for more detail including a list of Charter Members and a list of Past Presidents.

We hope that interested genealogists will join us at our regular meetings, annual seminars, beginner's workshops, and other events sponsored by the society. See our Event Information page for an overview of our meetings, and our Events page for listings of upcoming and previous events.

Although OGS does not offer a research service, there is a lot of local information available on the Thurston County web site of the USGenWeb Project. All of our published Thurston County records are available there, either online or through lookup volunteers (click on "Lookup Volunteers" on the Thurston County GenWeb page linked above).

OGS is a member of these genealogical societies:

The Washington State Genealogical Society (WSGS) helps connect you with resources and services so you can advance your search for your Washington State ancestors and family history. WSGS provides a list of upcoming events of Washington-based genealogy societies.

The National Genealogical Society (NGS) provides educational programs and training, publishes several publications in the field of genealogy, and creates networking opportunities for its members, including national conferences.
